Thröstur Björgvinsson, PhD, ABPP, Gabriela Romo, PhD, Nathan Dowling, PhD, Jackki Yam, PhD and Camila Larrea conducted a symposium titled: Transforming Nations Mental Health Care Systems for OCD: Lessons from Global Successes & Challenges at the 30th Annual International OCD Foundation Conference, July 10-13, 2025 in Chicago, IL.
Abstract:
Access to effective OCD treatment varies dramatically across countries, both in availability and affordability. This presentation highlights successful national mental health transformations in Norway, Singapore, and Finland, where the Bergen 4-Day Treatment (B4DT) for OCD has been integrated into healthcare systems. Additionally, ongoing efforts in Australia, Ecuador and the United States to expand access to evidence-based OCD care will be discussed. Key lessons learned, including ways to overcome barriers to implementation, advocacy, political involvement, harnessing treatment outcome data and scaling innovative treatments, will provide actionable insights for transforming mental health systems worldwide.
